Palace Guests

It’s so hard to come back to reality after an amazing week at the Palace by the Sea.

For Christmas, my husband and I took our family of three children and five grandchildren (and one on the way)  to the palace for a week. It was the best present we ever gave to our family, and the best they ever received. Presents are forgotten but memories remain.  ThePalace is more than the pictures show, I know that’s hard to believe because we dreamed over the pictures and video of the palace for months before we left.

Upon arrival in Manzanillo airport, we were transferred to the Palace by a great group (HARO)  and received a very warm welcome from all the staff with the best margaritas we ever had. The Palace staff is amazing, they are the most wonderfully warm and talented people. They could anticipate every want or need and would bend over backwards to assist in any way they could. Truly amazing people and amazing food. The meals were an event themselves. The best food we had in Manzanillo was at the Palace!

The beach at La Punta was awesome, our group rented jet skiis through HARO that were brought to the beach, so convenient. Because there was so much to do and see and our group would want to go in different directions, we also had HARO assist with additional transportation (Luis was our go-to travel guide, he did an excellent job).

We want to thank the Alpers for sharing their home with us, allowing us to build great memories of a wonderful time.

EOS-MARINEINSIGHT

Posted by & filed under Beachfront, Fantastic Views, La Punta, La Punta Private Beach, Las Hadas, Luxury Vacation Rental, Manzanillo, Uncategorized.

This week brought an additional point of interest to Palace by the Sea, as Barry Diller’s EOS the world’s largest sailing yacht is moored right in front of La Punta private beach, providing a spectacular view of this magnificent vessel. Here are some photos we took and a brief description from wiki:

The Eos is a three-masted Bermuda rigged schooner. The ship is one of the largest private sailing yachts in the world, and as of 2009 was owned by movie and media billionaire Barry Diller,[3] husband of fashion designer Diane von Fürstenberg.[4] According to a 2007 article in Harper’s Bazaar, Eos features a figurehead of von Fürstenberg sculpted by Anh Duong.[5] Its overall length measures approximately 305 feet (92.92m).[1]

Eos was launched in Bremen, Germany from the Lürssen yard in 2006. The ship took three years to build.[2] When launched, she “knocked Athena off the number one spot [for largest sailing yacht].”[1] Bill Langan was the designer,[6] Rondal/Huisman supplied the rig, and the remaining naval architecture was completed by Lürssen. The interior was designed by François Catroux.[7] The 200 feet (61 m) tall masts are “the maximum height allowed to enable the craft to pass underneath bridges cross the globe.”[8]

Latitude 38 describes Eos’ owner, Barry Diller, creator of Fox Broadcasting Company, as “currently the Chairman of Expedia and the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of IAC/InterActiveCorp … parent of companies including Home Shopping Network, Ticketmaster, Match.com and others,” noting that “In 2005, Diller received $295 million in compensation, the highest of any executive in the United States.”[12]

Posted by & filed under Beachfront, Fantastic Views, La Punta, La Punta Private Beach, Las Hadas, Luxury Vacation Rental, Manzanillo, Palace by the Sea Blog, Safety in Mexico.

Mexico is safer than most vacation destinations.
Safety in Mexico ranks far above many popular vacation destinations. Places we think of as idyllic Caribbean retreats have double, triple, even quadruple the murder rates of Mexico. Mexico’s famous vacation areas are even safer than the averaged statistics, and even safer still for tourists. The States where cartel violence has been focused do NOT include Colima.  Colima is considered safe within tourist areas.
While the media often portrays Mexico as the most dangerous place on earth, it is statistically quite safe. According to NationMaster.com which uses U.N.-based data, Mexico doesn’t even make the list of the 36 nations with the highest murder rates. Mild-mannered nations like Sweden and Switzerland top Mexico for murders on NationMaster.com.  The assault rate in the U.S. is nearly 5 times greater than that of Mexico in the independent Prominix report adjusted for under-reported crime.

Mexico is safer than many cities in the U.S.

Mexico comparison to US Cities

Mexico is safer than other popular destinations.

Mexico, one of the world’s great travel destinations, is often singled out for violent crime without telling the whole story. While there is sporadic violence along parts of the U.S. border, the majority of Mexico’s key tourism areas are not only safe, but safer than many other popular tourism areas.

Mexico compared to other countries. Keep in mind that tourist areas have exponentially fewer homicides than the border towns and cartel states.

More than 150,000 Americans safely visit Mexico every day. And while the media sensationalizes stories of violence in Mexico, Mexico is safer than many major U.S. cities. Travelers feel relatively safe visiting popular U.S. cities like Miami, Philadelphia, Chicago, New Orleans, Washington D.C, or Atlanta. Visitors from around the world enjoy these vibrant cities in relative, reasonable safety. Yet each of these cities is statistically less safe than Mexico.

Palace by the Sea is located in a gated peninsula with 24 hour guards. Tourist and Beach areas have very low crime and homicide rates. La Punta community is a very peaceful secure vacation destination. And beautiful!

La Punta Peninsula stretches between Santiago and Manzanillo Bays out into the Pacific Ocean.

Pillar is the best cook, we enjoyed her meals immensely. She has a true love for cooking and it was displayed all day, everday. God Bless her!!! I loved seeing Patti and Cecila again after 12 years. They both did outstanding work and attended to our every need. Cecilia worked the entire week, everyday all day for us. We couldn’t get enough of her massages. Jose and Pati were darling and constantly did everything possible to make our stay great. Jose and Albie drovethe men to Tamarsndo twice and helped them with golf, set us up on horseback and ATV…and of course JP checked on us everyday and made sure we were enjoying our wonderful stay.

Palace by the Sea - Shoreline and Palapa

What is a Palapa?

A palapa (a Spanish word of Malayan origin, meaning “pulpous leaf”) is an open-sided dwelling with a thatched roof made of dried palm leaves. It is very useful in hot weather and, therefore, very common in Mexican beaches, such as in Manzanillo. It is perhaps one of the most important architectural contributions of Philippine culture to Mexican West cultures.

We are very pleased to present this incredible aerial shoreline video of our waterfront and Palapa. So real it’s almost like being there – almost. Enjoy

Protected by a thick natural barrier of large bolders, you are right at the ocean, feeling her power, listening to the soothing yet strong ebb and flow of the waves hitting the rocky shore, feeling the ocean spray. Add to that the warm sun, cool breeze, serenaded by the sound of the birds, this is heaven.

Palace by the Sea and La Punta viewed across Manzanillo Bay

A short drive from Palace by the Sea, the gated community of La Punta – across the small peninsula and onto the mainland, a quick right along the carraterra towards Manzanillo, there is a fun restaurant BIGOTES (it means mustache) with fresh fish and many other delicacies. The feeling is open air, relaxing, refreshing and it offers an incredible view of La Punta – the peninsula that separates Manzanillo Bay and Santiago Bay. You can even see Palace by the Sea from here! Las Hadas – the famous hotel where the movie 10 was filmed is the tower toward the middle of the peninssula. We arrived early (before the restaurant filled up for lunch). Here are 2 quick pics of the simple yet fun and delicious layout and the view.
